Rotbrunna, Härnevi

Size: 1.65 m x 1.12 m

The original inscription:
Hjälmdis och Torsten reste sten ---- (e)fter Nocke.
Erik högg.

The English translation:
Hjälmdis and Torsten raised this stone in memory of Nocke.
Erik did the carving.

Kalle Runemaster
This stone seems to have been carved with utter care, joy and curiosity.

There are many details like the open loops of the knot, cryptic runes and finely crafted runes. Erik often looked for shortcuts, but it seems as if he wanted to do especially well here. However, there are still some minor mistakes, probably due to inexperience.

I would guess that this stone was carved in the middle of Erik's career, as the carvings were done with routine and confidence.

I also think the stone was raised close to Erik's home. He worked with passion and joy and wasn't in any kind of hurry.

I wonder why the snake is missing its tongue. Maybe raking light would make it visible.
