This is a fragment of a rather small stone.
The main staffs of the runes measure about 5-7 cm.

A second fragment of the same stone has been documented but is now missing.

The original inscription:
... son Holmfast ... Gud hjälpe anden hans.

The inscription in English:
... son Holmfast ... May God help his soul.

Kalle Runemaster
Since the stone was quite small and the inscription rather long, the runes had to be packed together tightly. Still, Erik didn't manage to make the whole inscription fit.

The last word, "hans" (eng. his) has therefore been placed outside the tale of the snake.
The main staffs are standing in different angles.

The arms of the cross are not symmetrical. The lower arm was carved as a whole.
It doesn't connect to the foot of the cross, which is the case on most of Erik's stones.

The ring at the centre of the cross is not round and the lines are uneven. The remaining part of U 738 is turned upside down. My sketch is turned in the right direction.

Below, you can see an article in Swedish on U 738, taken from the book Upplands Runskrifter.
