Ängsö, Hjulsta monastry

Size: 1.80 m x 1.19 m

The original inscription:
Öbjörn och Torgils reste sten denna efter Åslek, svärfar sin. Gud hjälpe anden hans.

The inscription in English:
Öbjörn and Torgils raised this stone in memory of Åslek, their father in law.
May God help his soul.

Kalle Runemaster
The arms of the cross are asymmetrical. The blades are different in shape, the ring uneven and not round. Many rounded runes tattle about Erik's working position.

All the S-runes were simplified and were carved with half main staffs only.

The same type of S-runes can be found on U 793 and U 1154.

Erik often had troubles with the S-runes and might have thought that he had found a solution.

The commissioners, however, seemed less pleased, and after those three stones, Erik never carved this type of S-runes again.

Below, you can see an article in Swedish on U 774, taken from the book Upplands Runskrifter.
